Lenovo’s latest netbook photos show it may just blow its rivals out of the water when it comes to looks. The company teased Monday with pictures of a new netbook called Pocket Yoga. The photos also show a netbook with a nice almost full-sized keyboard that supports a touchscreen for a stylus. It also has a form factor that allows it to be flipped into a small tablet PC.

Biometric Security

The optional biometric fingerprint sensor along with OmniPass software from Softex Inc. allows user authentication and password management for all Web sites and system log-ins. The fingerprint sensor is located below the touchpad and takes the place of the scroll button. The scroll function still works by sliding the finger over the side of the touchpad.

With OmniPass, the user only has to swipe the finger or remember a single master password. That reduces the number of lost passwords and the hassle of managing all the passwords.

Wireless LAN

Bluetooth

He dumped his long-serving trade minister after the ruling coalition suffered a heavy setback at elections this month.

The omission of Trade Minister Rafidah Aziz, a minister for almost 30 years and a senior member of the main ruling party, was the biggest surprise in the new line-up, which could shape Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's political future.

"Half (of the cabinet) will be new faces and will represent the people effectively," said Abdullah, who faces a possible test of his leadership at party elections later this year.

Asked why Rafidah, reputedly the world's longest-serving trade minister with 20 years in the job, had been dropped, he replied: "I don't want to discuss this. I don't need to explain further.

"Rafidah needs to make way for someone new to take over."

Rafidah was replaced by ex-farm minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Abdullah's National Front coalition suffered the biggest electoral setback in its 50-year reign on March 8, when it lost its two-thirds majority in federal parliament and five of the country's 13 states to opposition parties.

He kept technocrat Nor Mohamed Yakcop as second finance minister, a role in which he effectively runs economic and fiscal policy, though Abdullah formally remains the finance minister.

The new line-up comprises some younger politicians than the previous cabinet, which was known as the "mummified cabinet" by opposition parties because it included several ministers with more than 20 years of service.

Design and Build

The D620 is most interesting in that it adopts a widescreen format, a feature that hereto date really has been pushed more in the consumer channel of notebooks. Dell reckons that business-types will prefer this format too though. After all, a widescreen (available in WXGA and WXGA+ resolution) does allow you to more easily have two windows open next to each other at the same time. Side-by-side comparison of documents, web pages or spreadsheets is an example of common business tasks more easily done on a widescreen.

Lenovo ThinkPad T60 Review

The Thinkpad T-series is regarded by most people as the flagship PC laptop. Renowned build quality, legendary keyboard, and top of the line specifications make for one incredible machine. The new Thinkpad T60 will not disappoint in those categories. A new roll cage design reinforces the T60, an updated keyboard, EVDO wireless, and Intel Core Duo technology make up the backbone of this high end machine.

nicely loaded with a Core Duo T2500 (2.0GHz, 667MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache), 1GB DDR2 667 RAM, 100GB 5400RPM hard drive, dual layer DVDRW drive, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 GPU, 15" SXGA+ FlexView screen, EVDO wireless, and many more goodies. Unfortunately these high end goodies come at quite a price, running $2599 at publication with a three year warranty. The high price tag is certainly justified though, with more features than a Swiss Army Knife and the build quality of a tank. Lenovo support is the same as when IBM ran the Think-brand, top notch U.S. based phone support with quality service whether it be mail-in or on-site. For businesses and business professionals, Thinkpads are an easy choice for a high quality, reliable computing solution. The average home user certainly has some more factors to consider, as the price tag is significantly higher than a comparably configured "consumer" machine from the likes of HP or Dell. However in the end, users seeking the unique plethora of features held by Thinkpads will not be disappointed with Lenovo's latest Thinkpad, the T60. Let's take a deeper look at it!

BenQ Joybook S41 (Intel Santa Rosa)

Every revision of Intel's popular Centrino mobile platform is generally greeted with a thorough refresh of existing models from notebook vendors. The reason is rather simple. Intel's consistent use of the Centrino branding notwithstanding, each Centrino 'revision' involves a host of changes, from increased FSB support to newer processors and even reworked wireless and graphics chipsets. With such significant changes, the current and fourth revision, Santa Rosa is vastly different from the first Pentium M based Centrino notebook that debuted in 2003.

Intel has managed to keep these revisions coming along at a brisk pace, with the latest Santa Rosa platform coming slightly more than a year after the previous platform, Napa. Some of the changes are incremental, including draft-n support in the new wireless chipset Kedron and an increase in FSB to 800MHz. Others like the new Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 and Dynamic Acceleration technology have much potential to improve performance while reducing power consumption. Then there are the disappointments like Intel Turbo Memory that have yet to be widely adopted by vendors. In short, it's a mixed bag of technologies from the market leader.

Given its market clout, it's not surprising that vendors have come out in full support of the new platform. The Centrino branding is very powerful in the mobile arena and most consumers are aware of the name, though they may not be certain of its details. Coupled with the timing of the release of the new Windows Vista operating system early this year, demand looks good for these new notebooks and vendors have not been slow to react with their new Santa Rosa notebooks. We have previously seen such notebooks from HP and MSI and now you can add BenQ to the list. The Taiwanese manufacturer known for its affordable but decently powered models has a recent red dot award winner thanks to the new Joybook S41. Can it upset its more illustrious competitors with the bigger marketing dollars and brand recognition?

Those who have seen HP's recent notebooks with its Imprint technology will realize that notebooks nowadays are no longer just in boring black and silver. Patterns and other custom designs can be added underneath the surface thanks to an in-mold process that ensures the designs won't fade with time or get scratched. BenQ has something similar known as Laminated Color Technology (LCM) and this is showcased with the Joybook S41, which has a pattern of squares and circles that BenQ claims to be inspired by pop art. Well, we aren't art critics so while we vaguely know of such an art movement, we can't verify whether this design is representative.

What we do know is that an impromptu and unscientific poll of people who happened to get a glimpse of this design while it was being tested in our labs were unanimous in declaring it ugly. Comments of how the circles looked like water splotches were common. Perhaps we are all a bunch of philistines here but we have no doubts that there will be consumers out there who harbor similar sentiments. On the other hand, there are probably also some who favor such a design. The good news if you're in the former camp is that the design is only obvious up close. At a distance, the Joybook will just look like it's uniformly black, with a contrasting silver strip near the hinge. This is why you can't see that pattern in any of our photographs.

Dell XPS M1330 (Intel Santa Rosa)

Dell may be one of the top PC brands in the market today, but ask anyone about Dell notebooks and some of the most common replies you'll get will probably be "dull", "bland", "blocky" and "uninspiring". This has nothing to do with specifications or performance, but Dell has been using the same designs generation after generation and with the rise of lifestyle computing products from the likes of Apple, HP, Samsung and Sony, Dell's notebooks really do look archaic in comparison. Even Dell's acquisition of Alienware, a boutique PC brand, early last year did not seem to add any zest into their product line up. Instead, Dell has been experiencing a sluggish year, resulting in HP overtaking them in worldwide PC shipment numbers for the last quarter of 2006. Perhaps this has been a rude awakening for Dell, which has been languishing off their OEM-like approach to the consumer market for too long, but they've finally taken themselves to task with an overhaul of their Inspiron series into a younger, hipper and more attractive range.

However, if there is one notebook that will put a stop to critics, it will be the focus of this review - Dell's new XPS M1330 ultraportable. Combining stellar design and the performance oriented approach of the XPS line, the M1330 may very well be singularly responsible for lifting Dell out of their slump in the notebook market.
